Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has cautioned Regional Ministers against using state security agencies for partisan or personal purposes, warning that such actions could erode public trust and threaten national stability.

Speaking at a training programme on the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168) in Accra, the Minister stressed the importance of exercising public authority responsibly and within the framework of the law.

He noted that public officials often face pressure from individuals seeking to use state institutions to advance political interests or settle personal disputes. However, he emphasized that security agencies must remain professional, impartial, and focused on their constitutional responsibilities.

According to Muntaka, the politicisation or unlawful use of security institutions undermines democratic governance and weakens public confidence in the state’s ability to administer justice fairly.

“Unlawful or partisan use of the security institutions has no place within this room,” he told participants, urging Regional Ministers to uphold the principles of fairness, accountability, and the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.

The Interior Minister further encouraged stronger collaboration between Regional Ministers and security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and public safety across the country.

He disclosed that government is implementing measures to strengthen Ghana’s security architecture through enhanced recruitment, improved training programmes, and increased logistical support for security agencies.

Muntaka also highlighted ongoing efforts to reinforce border security and deepen cooperation with neighbouring countries to address emerging security threats and combat transnational crime.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a professional and efficient security system capable of safeguarding national peace and security.
