The accused, Bismarck Kpormeno, appeared before the court presided over by Her Honour Maame Yaa Mensah. His plea was not taken as investigations remain ongoing. He is expected to reappear before the court on June 16, 2026.

According to a statement from the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Command, Kpormeno was arrested on May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly ignored police signals to stop and attempted to evade arrest.

Police said the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers intercepted him. He allegedly tried to flee but was pursued and arrested at Bondase.

A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material suspected to be Indian hemp. The substances were concealed in the truck’s container and wrapped with sellotape.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspected narcotic substances were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The police indicated that Kpormeno is assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and the suspected narcotic exhibits have been retained as evidence.

The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and urged the public to volunteer credible information to assist law enforcement agencies in preventing and detecting crime.
