Police Hunt Armed Robbers After Mobile Money Vendor Killed at Gomoa Dominase Market
Police recover 14 spent cartridges as investigations intensify into deadly market robbery attack

The Central East Regional Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who shot and killed a mobile money vendor during a brazen attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region.
The deadly incident occurred on June 6, 2026, when masked gunmen reportedly stormed the bustling market, targeted the mobile money operator, and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Another person sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, June 8, officers at the Gomoa Dominase District Command received reports that armed men had invaded the market and attacked the vendor. A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, but the suspects had escaped into a nearby bush before officers arrived.
Preliminary investigations identified the deceased as Hamisu Abdulai, a mobile money vendor who suffered fatal gunshot wounds during the robbery.

A second victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was also shot and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Both victims were initially rushed to a nearby polyclinic before being referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba due to the severity of their injuries.
While Mr Abdulai was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, the injured victim is said to be responding positively to treatment.
Crime scene investigators recovered 14 spent BB cartridges and one live cartridge from the scene. The exhibits have been secured to aid ongoing investigations.
Police have assured residents that efforts are underway to track down and arrest the perpetrators. The public has been urged to provide any relevant information by contacting emergency numbers 191 or 18555 or reporting to the nearest police station.
