An Enchi District Magistrate Court has remanded an unemployed man into police custody for allegedly stealing GH¢20,000 belonging to a trader at the Asankrangwa–Takoradi lorry station in Ghana’s Western Region.
The accused, identified as Abraham William Abudu Hakim, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, but the court deferred sentencing as proceedings continue.

According to the prosecution, Hakim is known to the complainant, trader Genevieve Gyan, and had previously lived in the same area as her.
Police Inspector Stephen Offei Asante told the court that the accused approached the complainant on May 4, 2026, seeking temporary work at her drinks shop.
The complainant reportedly agreed and allowed him to assist in arranging items in the shop at the lorry station.
However, later that day, after the accused left the premises, the trader discovered that GH¢20,000—kept as sales proceeds—had gone missing.
The prosecution said the complainant became suspicious of Hakim and later traced him to a location where cannabis was allegedly being sold.
With the help of bystanders, he was arrested and handed over to police at Asankrangwa.
During interrogation, Hakim allegedly admitted the offence and refunded GH¢13,200 to the police.
The court subsequently remanded him into custody as investigations continue, with sentencing adjourned.
