A heartwarming act of compassion unfolded on Lawson Afisem, the popular social intervention programme hosted by Maame Frimpomaa Korankye, popularly known as MFK on Lawson TV and Radio, as the team successfully raised GH¢138,705 to fund a life-saving surgery for a 9-year-old boy suffering from a hole in the heart.

The emotional case was brought to the show by the boy’s mother, Matilda, who broke down in tears as she appealed for help, explaining that the cost of surgery was far beyond her means.

“My mother does not have the money for the surgery,” young Kelvin also said in a touching moment during the programme.

Kelvin, a Class 3 pupil, shared his daily struggle living with the condition. According to him, even simple breathing becomes difficult during attacks.

“When the sickness comes, they have to put oxygen on me, else I can’t breathe,” he said.

His mother revealed that doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had quoted GH¢93,750 for the necessary heart surgery, a cost she could not afford.

She added that since the condition worsened, Kelvin has been unable to attend school regularly.

Touched by the story, MFK personally donated GH¢2,000, while members of her team also contributed to the cause.

Viewers and listeners of Lawson Media were deeply moved and responded generously, leading to a successful fundraising effort that exceeded expectations and secured the full amount needed for the surgery.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Kelvin’s mother thanked MFK, the Lawson Afisem team, and all listeners and viewers for their kindness and support.

The programme, Lawson Afisem, airs on Lawson TV and Radio from Monday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, and continues to serve as a platform for social intervention and community support.
