The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that government has fully settled all outstanding payments owed to contractors working on major road projects under the “Big Push” initiative.
He explained that contractors who have submitted certified work documents for both ongoing and newly launched Big Push projects have received full payment, with no arrears left outstanding.
Mr. Agbodza made the disclosure on Thursday, April 23, during a joint inspection tour with President John Mahama of the Kasoa–Winneba Highway project, where they assessed progress, construction quality, and project timelines aimed at improving national road connectivity.
He stressed that the government’s infrastructure agenda prioritises local contractors, ensuring Ghanaian firms benefit significantly from road development spending.
“As of today, every contractor who has raised a work certificate on any Big Push project has been settled. We do not owe any contractor a pesewa,” he stated.
The Minister further reaffirmed government’s commitment to timely payments to prevent delays in project execution and sustain momentum in road development across the country.
He also praised Ghanaian contractors for their performance, noting that the quality of work on ongoing projects has been impressive.
“The performance of Ghanaian contractors has been impressive. The quality of work is good, and our belief in their ability to fix our roads remains unwavering,” he added.
