Ashanti Region SHS Heads Face Tough PAC Scrutiny Over Financial Infractions in 2024 Auditor-General’s Report

Heads of Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region have appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Day 3 of its ongoing hearing into the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.
The schools under scrutiny include Prempeh College, Antoa SHS, New Edubiase SHS, Kumasi Academy (KUMACA), KNUST Senior High School, and St. George’s SHS.

Proceedings began with Kumasi Academy, followed by appearances from Prempeh College, St. George’s SHS, and KNUST Senior High School. As of the latest session, authorities of Antoa SHS are before the Committee responding to queries on cited infractions.
The institutions are being questioned over various financial irregularities, including delays in critical school infrastructure projects such as GETFund buildings.
Earlier in the day, heads of some colleges of education were the first to appear before the Committee.
The session forms part of the second zonal public hearing in the Ashanti Region, as the Public Accounts Committee intensifies its scrutiny of findings captured in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.

The ongoing exercise targets Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as public basic and secondary schools, in a bid to address financial lapses and strengthen accountability in the management of public funds. It remains a key component of Parliament’s oversight responsibility to ensure transparency and prudent use of state resources.
