The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party communicators to remain firm and continue defending democratic principles, amid what he described as rising intimidation under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
He made the appeal on Saturday, April 18, when a delegation of party executives from the Bono Region visited him at his residence.
The group, made up of national, regional, and constituency officers, also expressed gratitude for his support following the arrest and detention of party member Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando.
Dr. Bawumia raised concerns over what he described as the alleged use of state security agencies to silence political opponents, warning that such actions could undermine Ghana’s democratic image.
He emphasized that freedom of expression must be protected and not compromised for political convenience.
He encouraged NPP communicators to remain confident, factual, and vocal in their engagements, insisting that intimidation would not weaken their resolve.
According to him, “the intimidation can never break us,” urging members to continue holding the government accountable.
The NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, who led the delegation, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to standing strong despite challenges.
He also announced plans for a demonstration in Sunyani on Wednesday, April 22, under the theme “Yensuro Ahunahuna Demo,” aimed at protesting alleged attacks on free speech and democratic freedoms.
