The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old mason, Ebenezer Birikwai, known as “Immortal,” to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to an offence involving a four-year-old child.

The conviction follows his arrest on April 16, 2026, at Manso Afedie. Appearing before the court for the first time, he admitted to the charge under the Criminal Code relating to the protection of minors.

Court proceedings, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apeatu, heard that the incident occurred during the day while children were playing in a shared space. The situation came to light after a relative of the child noticed unusual behaviour and quickly intervened.

Community members were alerted, and the police from Manso Adubia responded promptly, taking the accused into custody. The case was subsequently handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Medical assessment later confirmed that the child had been harmed.

In delivering the sentence, the court underscored the need to safeguard children and reaffirmed the seriousness with which such cases are treated under the law.
