A 42-year-old herbalist has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly attempting to smuggle hacksaw blades to a remand prisoner at the Kasoa Central Business District Police Station.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Hamidu, was apprehended on April 14, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m. by officers on duty at the station’s charge office.
According to police reports, Hamidu had brought several items for a remand inmate, Cephas Bubune Sisiawovor, who is being held in connection with a robbery case. The items included six bottled soft drinks and a loaf of bread.
However, during a routine inspection, officers discovered two newly acquired hacksaw blades concealed inside the loaf of bread.
Hamidu was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the remand prisoner had instructed Hamidu during a previous visit to collect the items from an individual identified only as Emmanuel, reportedly located near the Lucky Herbal Clinic in Kasoa.
While Hamidu remains in police custody assisting with investigations, authorities are actively searching for Emmanuel, who is currently at large.
The confiscated items have been retained as evidence.
The Police Command has praised the alertness of its officers and cautioned the public against engaging in activities that threaten security, emphasizing that offenders will face the full force of the law.
