Four people have died and 19 others sustained injuries following a serious road accident on the Buipe–Tamale highway at Sawaba No. 2 on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The collision involved a Sprinter Benz bus (registration AS 9332-17) traveling from Buipe to Kumasi and a trailer truck, which reportedly fled the scene after the crash.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that personnel from the Buipe Fire Command responded promptly to the emergency call. By the time firefighters arrived, 19 passengers had already been rescued and taken to Buipe Government Hospital for treatment. Firefighters then worked to extricate three passengers trapped in the wrecked minibus.

Among the victims, four — two men and two women — lost their lives. Three died at the scene, while one later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The bodies were handed over to the police for safekeeping and further investigation.

The Sprinter bus suffered extensive damage, with preliminary reports suggesting the trailer truck caused the crash before fleeing.

The GNFS credited the swift actions of its team, led by Station Officer II Abubakar M. Sheriff, with preventing additional casualties and ensuring survivors received prompt medical care.

Police have launched investigations into the incident and are actively seeking the driver of the trailer truck involved in the hit-and-run.
