The Minority Caucus in Parliament has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, as part of their 5-day tour engaging cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region following recent reductions in cocoa prices.
The engagement focused on addressing concerns over the decline in cocoa prices and exploring potential support measures for farmers in the region.
The delegation was led by Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip in Parliament.
Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh said the courtesy call was intended to inform the Offinsomanhene about their interactions with cocoa farmers regarding the government’s price reduction, and to seek his blessings and support for the programme’s success, given his role in overseeing Asanteman in the absence of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
He added that the engagement also aimed to identify challenges confronting cocoa farmers due to the government’s pricing decision, and to submit a report to His Royal Majesty seeking intervention to have the decision reconsidered.
Hon. Annoh-Dompreh further reaffirmed the Minority Caucus’s commitment to supporting cocoa farmers across the country during these difficult times.
The Chief of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, in his remarks, urged the Minority Caucus to address cocoa farmers’ concerns fairly and to treat the issue as a national matter rather than a partisan political debate.
