Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Nima, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to address youth unemployment, strengthen education, and improve community facilities ahead of the March 3, 2026 by-election.
Speaking at a debate organized by the Concerned Nima Citizens Foundation, Ahmed highlighted the link between rising youth involvement in crime and drug abuse and the lack of recreational and skill-building spaces.
He emphasized the need to create dedicated areas where children and young people can play, learn, and cultivate talents.
“Many of the recreational spaces that once nurtured our youth have been lost to development,” Ahmed said. “We must build new facilities for sports, arts, and skills development. This will help prevent youth from turning to drugs and crime, and also support rehabilitation for those affected.”
He also committed to expanding scholarship programs, supporting vocational training, and providing interest-free loans to empower local entrepreneurs. Ahmed noted that he has already collaborated with NGOs to educate over a thousand young people in Nima.
On healthcare, Baba Jamal highlighted his contributions to the Nima Clinic, including the construction of patient-friendly sheds to improve service delivery. His approach integrates education, skills development, and community support to create lasting impact.
During an interview, Ahmed stressed the importance of shifting perceptions about Nima, positioning it as a center for economic and social progress. He has actively engaged residents and local institutions to ensure youth have access to employment and skills training opportunities.
“I grew up here and have dedicated my life to this community,” Ahmed said. “My vision, prepared since 2023, is ready to be implemented. Every young person in Nima should feel included in development and hopeful about their future.”
The Nima by-election on March 3, 2026, will see candidates from the NDC, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and independents contesting the parliamentary seat.
