Parliament has approved a GH¢9.8 billion allocation to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for 2026, aimed at supporting key projects and programmes across multiple levels of the country’s education sector.
A significant portion of the funding GH¢4.2 billion has been dedicated to sustaining the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, reinforcing government efforts to maintain access to secondary education.
The tertiary education sector will receive GH¢1.5 billion, including GH¢300 million to fund continuing beneficiaries of the GETFund scholarship scheme and provide fresh sponsorship opportunities for students studying both locally and abroad.
In addition, GH¢230 million has been earmarked to complete ongoing basic school infrastructure projects, while GH¢310 million will finance the construction of new educational facilities nationwide.
The approved formula is expected to strengthen education delivery, expand infrastructure, and enhance scholarship support for Ghanaian students in 2026.
