The NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has declared that the party’s leadership has been vindicated for holding internal elections, beginning with presidential primaries, a move that initially sparked debate but is now being widely understood and appreciated by party members.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko on Monday, February 23, 2026, Kodua also reflected on the party’s difficult period following the 2024 general election, describing December 2024 to April 2025 as the most challenging months of his tenure.
According to Kodua, he willingly assumed responsibility for the NPP’s poor showing at the polls, noting that had the party won, credit might not necessarily have been attributed to him.
“If I had not shown emotional intelligence and acted maturely, the party would not be where it is today. That alone gives me joy,” he said, adding that he does not dwell on personal attacks or criticisms.
He acknowledged the severe criticism both he and Mahamudu Bawumia faced after the election defeat but maintained that such challenges required composure and focus on the bigger picture.
Emphasizing collective leadership, Kodua stated:
“It is not Bawumia who has won the presidential primaries; it is the NPP. The party is on the right track, and that is what truly matters for our future.”
He credited the internal electoral process for gradually restoring unity within the party and reaffirming members’ confidence in NPP leadership.
Reflecting on the party’s current trajectory, Kodua expressed optimism:
“Now the unity in the NPP is gradually coming back, and if it continues like this, the party will return to power in 2028.”
By prioritizing the party over individual ambitions and highlighting the importance of emotional intelligence, Justin Kodua underscores a renewed NPP ready to learn from past setbacks and position itself for a successful political comeback.
