- Says he moved to challenge himself at a high level again.
- Has made six league appearances since arriving.
Ghana international Andre Ayew has opened up about his decision to join Dutch side NAC Breda, saying his primary motivation was to continue competing at a high level and push himself in a new environment.
The 36-year-old forward signed with NAC Breda during the January transfer window on a short-term deal running until the end of the season. Prior to the move, Ayew had been training individually after parting ways with French Ligue 1 club Le Havre, where his contract expired at the end of last season.
During his two-year spell in France, Ayew made 27 league appearances, scoring four goals and registering one assist.
Speaking to ESPN, Ayew said the switch to the Eredivisie was driven by his desire for a fresh challenge.
“I am a footballer and I always want to compete at the highest level. The Dutch league is very strong technically and physically,” he said.
“I wanted to challenge myself again, just as I did at Le Havre over the last two years — to join a project where I can contribute and where there is mutual belief.”
Ayew added that the club’s ambitions and the support from the coaching staff and fans played a key role in his decision.
“It was important for me to feel the desire from the club and the coach. I am a player who thrives on energy, and when you have passionate fans and a vibrant stadium atmosphere, it brings out the best in me.”
Since joining NAC Breda, Ayew has made six league appearances, starting once as he works to cement his place in the squad.
