The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of maximum security for its presidential primary on January 31, 2026.

Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony for the five NPP flagbearer aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the IGP confirmed that a minimum of 70 police personnel will be deployed to each polling station nationwide to ensure a safe, peaceful, and credible voting process.

He further disclosed that the Police Service has formally written to the Minister for the Interior to request the support of the military in the Bawku area, where additional security is deemed necessary. Elsewhere in the country, the military will remain on standby while the police lead security operations.

“We have enough police personnel on the ground, except in Bawku, where military assistance may be required,” Mr. Yohuno explained. “We are assuring you that at least 70 officers will be stationed at every polling station. We have deployed heavily, and all senior officers will be present to oversee security.”

The IGP’s announcement underscores the Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that the NPP’s January 31 primaries are conducted safely, transparently, and without incident, providing confidence to both party members and the general public.
