2026 World Cup: FIFA Warns African Fans to Follow Stadium Rules
Fans Advised to Bring Their Passion—but Not Pyrotechnics—to the 2026 Tournament

- FIFA urges African fans to review prohibited items before attending 2026 World Cup matches.
- Pyrotechnics, fireworks, and some musical instruments will not be allowed in stadiums.
- Supporter groups can apply for special permission to bring restricted items like drums.
FIFA’s Chief Safety and Security Officer, G.B. Jones, has cautioned African supporters travelling for the 2026 World Cup to carefully review stadium regulations and prohibited items before arriving at match venues.
In an interview shared by sports journalist Gary Al-Smith on X on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Jones said FIFA celebrates fan passion but must prioritise safety across stadiums in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. As a result, items such as pyrotechnics, fireworks, and certain musical instruments will not be permitted.
“We want you to bring your passion, but leave your pyro,” Jones stated. “No fireworks, no smoke devices. We love the energy, but safety comes first.”
He explained that fans are encouraged to bring national flags, colourful banners, and other cultural items that add to the World Cup’s festive atmosphere.
Jones further urged supporters to review the official list of prohibited items before travelling.
“These items will be clearly listed on our website and on your ticket information,” he said. “Please make sure you know what is allowed and what is not.”
While instruments like drums and horns are generally restricted, Jones clarified that fan groups may apply for special clearance through FIFA’s official platform.
“We want fans to celebrate fully — but within the rules that ensure everyone’s safety,” he added.
