Story Highlights
  • Graduate nurses and midwives threaten protest over government delays in posting, with some unemployed for up to five years
  • A planned demonstration this week was called off due to unresolved security arrangements with the police
  • The association says it will continue pursuing all lawful measures until government acts on the posting of its members

The Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association has threatened to stage a protest over what it calls the government’s prolonged delay in posting its members, some of whom have been unemployed for up to five years.

A demonstration planned for this week was called off after the association failed to finalize security arrangements with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Frustration among the graduates continues to rise. Speaking journalists on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Gamal Osman, who completed his training in 2021, described the hardships faced by unemployed graduates.

“I have been at home for four years since completing school in 2021. We are stranded. Completing school and depending on others is not easy. Even buying water becomes a struggle,” he said.

The association emphasized that it will continue to explore all lawful avenues to press the government to post its members until action is taken.
