Ministry Investigates Alleged Assassination Attempts on Special Prosecutor and Assault on OSP Official

- Ministry of the Interior launches probes into alleged assassination attempts on Special Prosecutor and assault on OSP official
- Initial checks show no police records of reported threats; alleged attacks reportedly occurred before 2025
- Minister orders full-scale investigations, promising transparency and protection for all citizens
The Ministry of the Interior has initiated two separate investigations following claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts and that a senior official at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was allegedly assaulted by police officers.
The allegations first came to light when Samuel Appiah Darko, OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications, told the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6 that Mr. Agyebeng had been targeted in two failed assassination plots while carrying out his official duties. Darko also alleged that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
In a press release on December 8, the Ministry said that while the claims are of serious national security concern, they could also undermine government efforts to strengthen anti-corruption initiatives. Preliminary checks have therefore been launched.
The Ministry noted that initial discussions with the Special Prosecutor indicated the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025, and that security agencies and police stations across the country have no record of reported threats against Mr. Agyebeng.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the Minister for the Interior has ordered a full-scale investigation into both matters. The first probe will focus on the alleged assassination attempts against Mr. Agyebeng, stressing that crimes of this nature do not expire. The second investigation will examine Darko’s claims of assault by multiple police officers.
The Ministry assured the public that the findings will be made public once the investigations are completed and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding all citizens, emphasizing that every Ghanaian should be able to carry out lawful activities without fear for their safety.
