- Akrofuom MP says Ghana’s economy is heading in the right direction under current government
- Highlights include stabilized cedi, reduced fuel prices, and consistent power supply
- Achievements credited to efficient governance with fewer than 60 ministers, despite inheriting a reckless economy
Akrofuom Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Azumah, has praised the government’s performance and the recently presented 2026 Budget, describing it as a roadmap that positions Ghana on the path to economic recovery and transformation.
Speaking with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Hon. Azumah said, “If you look at the performance of the government from January, you can clearly see the country is heading in the right direction. We inherited a reckless economy, but today, tangible improvements are evident.”
He highlighted the stabilization of the cedi, noting that the exchange rate, which once hovered around 15 cedis to a dollar, is now approximately 10 cedis to the dollar, despite depreciation pressures over the past ten months.
He said fuel prices have also been reduced, easing the burden on consumers.
On energy, Hon. Azumah dismissed earlier claims by the opposition NPP that President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would return Ghana to “dumsor,” pointing out that power supply has remained stable for nearly a decade under the current administration.
“All the achievements this government is recording have been accomplished with less than 60 ministers, which shows efficiency and prudent management of state resources.”
Hon. Azumah expressed optimism that the 2026 Budget, themed “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation,” will consolidate economic gains, create jobs, and further strengthen public confidence in the government’s capacity to lead the country toward sustainable growth.
