High Court Slashes Osei Assibey Antwi’s Bail to GH¢623 Million in NSA Scandal

Court grants partial relief to former NSA boss as defense wins bid to reduce hefty GH¢800 million bail to a more attainable GH¢623 million.

Story Highlights
  • High Court reduces Osei Assibey Antwi’s bail from GH¢800m to GH¢623m
  • Ex-NSA boss faces charges of stealing and causing GH¢1.4bn loss to the state
  • Court keeps all other bail conditions, including sureties and passport seizure

The Accra High Court has reduced the bail granted to former National Service Authority (NSA) Executive Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, from GH¢800 million to GH¢623 million, though all other bail conditions remain unchanged.

This decision followed an appeal from Mr. Assibey’s legal team, who argued that the initial amount was practically unattainable. They noted that satisfying an GH¢800 million bail would require pledging numerous high-value properties in Accra or over a thousand homes in Kumasi, rendering it unrealistic.

The former NSA boss faces charges of stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state totaling GH¢1.4 billion. His lawyers further stressed that the core aim of bail—to ensure he does not abscond—had already been addressed, citing his passport surrender and placement on a no-flight list.

However, State Attorney Dufie Prempeh opposed the application, maintaining that the original terms were fair and essential to secure the accused’s attendance in court.

In its ruling, the court acknowledged the magnitude of the alleged financial loss but deemed the revised GH¢623 million bail more proportionate and attainable. All other existing conditions, including property-based sureties, remain in full effect.
