KMA and Savannah-Georgia Sign Cultural and Economic Partnership Agreement

Bilateral pact aims to foster long-term intercultural ties, business collaboration, and shared growth

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has formalized a landmark intercultural and economic partnership with the city of Savannah, Georgia (USA) to deepen cooperation in areas of cultural exchange, economic development, and mutual investment opportunities.

The agreement was sealed during a visit by Savannah Mayor Van Johnson II, who emphasized the long-term vision behind the pact.

“This partnership should outlive political tenures. My hope is that, generations from now, young people from Savannah and Kumasi will continue this journey of friendship, exchange, and collaboration,” Mayor Johnson said during a ceremonial meeting.

Strengthening Global Ties through Culture and Business

Mayor Johnson praised Kumasi’s rich cultural heritage and economic potential, noting that his delegation had been deeply impressed by the city’s vibrancy and hospitality.

He expressed commitment to ensuring that the relationship evolves into concrete business ventures, knowledge-sharing, and enduring people-to-people connections.

“We will return to the U.S. as ambassadors for Kumasi—to share its story and open doors for investment,” he added.

A Shared Vision for Growth

Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi welcomed the agreement, stressing that such cross-continental relationships are essential for sustainable urban development and global cooperation.

“This partnership goes beyond the political cycle. It is rooted in shared values—innovation, growth, and cultural exchange—that can uplift both cities,” Boadi noted.

He outlined Ghana’s strategic advantages—such as abundant natural resources, fertile lands, and a youthful workforce—as key incentives for investors and collaborators from Savannah.

“Bring your technology and expertise. My people will provide the human resource. Together, we will build a future of mutual benefit,” he added.

Looking Ahead

Both cities pledged to maintain consistent dialogue and work toward formalizing the partnership further through reciprocal visits, joint programs, and public-private initiatives.

Mayor Johnson extended an invitation for the Kumasi leadership to visit Savannah, where the partnership will be further solidified through cultural and economic showcases.

The Kumasi–Savannah agreement signals a new chapter in global city diplomacy, with the potential to unlock opportunities in tourism, education, trade, and innovation for both parties.
