Wa Drug Bust: 192 Cocaine Wraps Confirmed, Two Suspects Remanded

The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed that 192 wraps of a substance seized from two suspects in Wa have tested positive for cocaine.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, disclosed this at a press briefing in Wa, saying forensic analysis conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission confirmed the substance as cocaine.
The two suspects are currently on remand as investigations continue.
The first suspect, identified only as SK, was arrested on September 6, 2026, at the ESP Bus Terminal in Wa with the substance in his possession.
DCOP Yiribaare described the seizure as the first of its kind in the Upper West Region, while cautioning that the Police are investigating whether the development signals a new trend in drug trafficking in the region.
He said the Police are intensifying intelligence-gathering operations, including what he described as “foot intelligence”, to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the suspected drug trade.
The Regional Police Commander also warned commercial vehicle owners against allowing their vehicles to be used to transport illicit drugs.
“If your vehicle is likely to be connected, we can apply for forfeiture of such vehicles used as carriers,” he warned.
He urged vehicle owners to exercise caution, stressing that the law would be applied against anyone found facilitating drug trafficking.
“Vehicle owners should be very careful because the law will catch up with them,” he added.
