Three Suspected Robbers Killed, Two Police Officers Injured in Tilly Forest Shootout
Two police officers were injured after a team came under gunfire during an operation to recover weapons allegedly hidden by a suspected robbery gang.

Three suspected robbers have been killed and two police officers injured after a police team came under heavy gunfire during an operation at Tilly Forest in the Upper East Region.
The operation was conducted by the Upper East Regional Police Command as part of efforts to retrieve firearms allegedly concealed by a suspected robbery gang.
According to the Police, some suspects who had been arrested earlier led investigators to a location in the forest where they claimed the gang had hidden weapons.
However, upon reaching the location, the police team came under gunfire.
Three suspects who were accompanying the officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire. They were identified as 33-year-old Amadu Apiiga, 20-year-old Philip Vokbilla, and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley, who the Police said led investigators to the location.
The three were rushed to a hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
The Police also confirmed that two officers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Other individuals believed to have been wounded during the shooting reportedly fled the scene.
The operation follows the arrest of a suspected robbery gang linked to attacks on motorbike riders and mobile money vendors in Benaba, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, Zebilla and surrounding communities.
The Police have also linked the gang to the killing of a police officer during a robbery attack at Zebilla on February 8, 2026.
Following the operation, investigators recovered two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, two pistols, including a BRUNI 92, 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 18 live BB cartridges.
Three cutlasses, four unregistered Yamaha Aerox scooters, a pair of black boots, a motorbike number plate and two mobile phones were also retrieved.
Six other suspected members of the gang who were arrested earlier remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
The Upper East Regional Police Command says efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang and determine the source of the weapons.
The Police have appealed to the public to report anyone found with suspected gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or provide information that could assist with the investigation.
