Mahama Heads to New York for 81st UNGA, to Deliver Ghana’s Statement on Sept. 24

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to host high-level discussions on global development and reparatory justice.

The 81st UN General Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.” The General Debate is scheduled for September 22 to 28, 2026.

As part of his engagements, President Mahama will host a high-level event on the Accra Reset, themed “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again,” bringing together world leaders to discuss ways of strengthening global development.

He is also expected to host a high-level event on reparatory justice, focusing on international cooperation on the return and restitution of cultural property and heritage.

President Mahama is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s statement during the General Debate on Thursday, September 24.

During his stay in New York, he is also expected to hold meetings with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and executives of multinational companies as part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships and promote investment in Ghana.

His engagements are expected to include a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable with business leaders, an address at the Council on Foreign Relations, the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting and the NASDAQ Closing Bell ceremony.

President Mahama is scheduled to conclude his New York engagements on Friday, September 25, with a town hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian community.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the President to update Ghanaians in the United States on his administration’s vision for national development
