A coalition of former regional, constituency, and polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has formally conferred the title of Life Patron on Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “Napo,” the party’s 2024 vice-presidential candidate.
The group expressed confidence that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s leadership as Life Patron would play a critical role in strengthening the party’s organisation and enhancing its prospects of returning to power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with the former Manhyia South Member of Parliament, the coalition’s spokesperson, Hon. Kwabena Senkyire, said the decision was informed by Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s longstanding commitment to the welfare of former party executives.

According to him, Dr. Opoku Prempeh had been supporting the group well before the NPP’s amended constitution formally granted former executives voting rights in the recent flagbearer elections.
In recognition of his support, the group also bestowed on him the honorary title “Obedombie,” meaning “helper in times of need.”
Hon. Senkyire noted that since members of the group exited active party roles, Dr. Opoku Prempeh has consistently assisted with medical expenses, prescription costs, and other critical welfare needs, describing him as the ideal figure to provide guidance and leadership.

Drawing on their decades of collective political experience, the former executives have outlined a clear roadmap for continued engagement within the party. Their central objective is to ensure the NPP recaptures power in 2028 and remains electorally competitive beyond that period.
The group plans to leverage its institutional memory to support current party executives in administrative and organisational tasks, while also committing to intensive grassroots mobilisation. This, they said, would help bridge the gap between party leadership and the base, creating what they described as a “well-oiled campaign machine.”
