(VIDEO) Abu Jinapor Blames Poor Coordination for Flooding, Questions Timing of Mitigation Funds
Damongo MP says stronger coordination is needed to improve sanitation and flood prevention.

- Jinapor blamed poor government coordination.
- He questioned the timing of $150 million in mitigation funds.
- He called for better flood prevention planning.
Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has attributed the recent flooding to weak government coordination on sanitation and flood prevention, while questioning why $150 million for flood mitigation was released only after lives had already been lost.
Contributing to a statement on the floods in Parliament, Mr. Jinapor said the disaster was caused by several factors, but argued that effective coordination among government agencies remains the most critical issue. He stressed that flood prevention efforts require better planning and cooperation across key institutions.

The MP referred to remarks by the Minister for Local Government, who indicated that sanitation challenges had worsened because sanitation budgets were being allocated to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), but were not being effectively utilised. Mr. Jinapor suggested that this had contributed to poor sanitation management in Accra and other parts of the country.
He also noted that previous flood-control measures highlighted by Francis Asenso Boakye appeared to have been discontinued after the current administration took office. While acknowledging that residents also have a responsibility to avoid building on waterways, he maintained that stronger government leadership is needed.
Mr. Jinapor called on the government to improve coordination in sanitation management, drainage maintenance, dredging, and other flood mitigation measures to reduce the risk of future disasters and better protect lives and property.
