The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Friday, October 10, 2025, conduct a balloting exercise to determine the positions of its flagbearer aspirants on the ballot paper for the party’s upcoming presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.
The National Elections Committee is scheduled to meet the five aspirants — or their representatives — at the NPP headquarters in Accra to carry out the process.
According to the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, the exercise is strictly for aspirants who have met all the requirements set out in the party’s guidelines issued on July 29.
“All candidates who have fulfilled the party’s guidelines will take part in today’s balloting. No one will be exempted from adhering to the rules,” Mr. Mohammed affirmed, stressing that the procedures are firmly rooted in the NPP’s constitution and must be respected by all contenders.
“These guidelines stem from the constitution, and anyone aspiring to lead the party into the 2028 elections must comply,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Communications Director for Kwabena Agyepong’s campaign, Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, has reiterated that Mr. Agyepong remains solidly in the race despite recent debate over a GH₵4 million development fee.
He clarified that while Mr. Agyepong opposed the fee as a mandatory condition for contesting, he remained committed to supporting the party’s development voluntarily.
“At his vetting, he stated his position clearly — he is not against contributing to the party’s progress, but he believes such payments shouldn’t be prerequisites for contesting the flagbearership,” Mr. Dowuona explained.
Five aspirants — Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyepong — are contesting to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
The outcome of today’s balloting will determine the order in which their names appear on the ballot paper for the January primary.
