Two BECE candidates injured in accident but return to write exams amid security concerns in Nkwanta South.

- Two BECE candidates injured in motorbike accident on their way to exams.
- Students still returned to write papers after hospital treatment.
- Security tightened at exam centres due to local insecurity concerns.
Two candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Nkwanta South have been involved in a motorbike accident while travelling to their examination centre.
The students were quickly rushed to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital for medical treatment. Despite their injuries, they reportedly showed determination and later returned to the examination centre to continue writing their papers after receiving care.
The Municipal Education Director for Nkwanta South, Jonathan Korsinah, confirmed the incident in an interview, noting that insecurity in parts of the municipality has affected examination preparations.
He explained that some parents refused to allow their wards to attend pre-exam camping due to safety concerns, resulting in many candidates losing valuable preparation time.
According to him, students had been out of school for nearly three months, a disruption he says has negatively affected performance levels in this year’s BECE compared to previous years.
He added that the situation is undermining efforts to improve education outcomes in the municipality and called on residents to support peace and stability.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified at examination centres, with police officers and joint military patrol teams deployed to ensure the safety of candidates during the examination period.
Authorities say the presence of security personnel is aimed at preventing disruptions and giving students a safe environment to complete their exams.
