GIS Mourns Fallen Officer After Brutal Night Ambush in Tempane
Ghana Immigration Service confirms one officer dead and another injured after gunmen ambushed them on patrol duty at Nangani in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed the death of one of its officers and the injury of another after armed assailants opened fire on them at Nangani in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.
The victims, Assistant Immigration Control Officers (AICO I) Philip Lartey and Cosmos Dakurah, were attacked by unidentified gunmen while returning from duty on a motorbike around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
According to a GIS statement issued on November 3, both officers sustained gunshot wounds and were initially rushed to the Basyonde Clinic before being transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for further treatment. Sadly, AICO I Cosmos Dakurah succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday.
The GIS assured that it is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice. A joint team from the Immigration and Police headquarters has been deployed to the Upper East Region to assist with investigations and provide support to affected personnel.
The Service expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the fallen officer as a dedicated and courageous professional who served Ghana with distinction.
“The GIS vehemently condemns this heinous act and remains resolute in ensuring the safety and welfare of all its officers,” the statement concluded.
