Ghana’s Black Princesses were held to a 2–2 draw by South Africa in the first leg of the third round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Agnes Yeboah gave the hosts the lead in the 33rd minute after finishing calmly to put the Princesses ahead before the break.
Ghana came close to extending their advantage shortly before halftime, but Diana Amoako’s long-range strike from the centre of the pitch crashed against the post.
South Africa drew level early in the second half, equalising in the 48th minute to shift the momentum of the contest.
The Princesses responded quickly, regaining the lead four minutes later when Linda Owusu Ansah rose highest to power home from a corner kick in the 52nd minute.
However, the visitors struck back again in the 60th minute, taking advantage of a defensive lapse to restore parity.
Ghana pushed for a late winner and thought they had found it in stoppage time, but Jessica Appiah’s 90th-minute effort was ruled offside.
The two sides will meet again in the return leg in South Africa on Saturday, February 14, 2026, with the aggregate winner advancing to the final round of the qualifiers.
