Police Recover Five Assault Rifles After Bono Shootout, One Suspect Killed
Intelligence-led operation thwarts planned highway robbery, weapons and ammunition seized

The Ghana Police Service has recovered five firearms following a shootout with suspected robbery gang members in the Bono Region, which left one suspect dead.
In a press release dated February 17, 2026, the Bono Regional Police Command stated that intelligence gathered on February 11 indicated a gang was planning to attack traders along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway. Surveillance teams were promptly deployed to intercept the criminals.
According to the police, in the early hours of February 12, officers moving near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from bushes. Police returned fire, and at daybreak a male suspect was found dead with an AK-47 rifle beside him.
A subsequent search of the area uncovered a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition, including:

Two Baikal single-barrel guns

One pump-action gun

One Beretta pistol with three rounds of 9mm ammunition

34 extra 9mm rounds

Another AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds and 10 spare rounds

39 BB cartridges

A dagger, mobile phone, Honda motorbike, black mask, and a set of talismans
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the remaining gang members and appealed for credible information that could help in the investigation.
Police reiterated their commitment to enhancing safety and security across the Bono Region.
