Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of six young women who lost their lives during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

In a heartfelt post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Bawumia described the incident as “deeply tragic,” offering prayers for the bereaved families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
He wrote:

“My condolences go out to the families of the young Ghanaians who lost their lives today at the El-Wak Stadium. May the injured recover quickly, and the souls of our departed ladies rest in peace.”

The stampede reportedly occurred after thousands of job seekers thronged the stadium to take part in the recruitment process. Witnesses said the situation turned chaotic when the crowd surged at the gates, leading to multiple injuries and fatalities.

The Ghana Armed Forces later confirmed the deaths of six female applicants, with several others hospitalized at the 37 Military Hospital, some in critical condition.

In response, the GAF has suspended the recruitment exercise and pledged to cooperate fully with investigators to identify the causes of the tragedy and prevent future occurrences.

The incident has since sparked national grief and public debate over safety protocols and crowd management during large-scale recruitment drives.
