Bayern Munich sent a resounding message at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, thrashing Auckland City 10-0 in Cincinnati to register the biggest victory in the competition’s history.
The Bundesliga champions, now under the leadership of Vincent Kompany, completely outclassed the semi-professional New Zealand side. Rising star Jamal Musiala marked his return from injury with a second-half hat-trick, while veteran forward Thomas Müller struck twice as he continued his farewell campaign with the club.
The onslaught began early with Kingsley Coman heading Bayern in front just six minutes in. Twelve minutes later, Sacha Boey doubled the lead with a powerful half-volley from Coman’s knockdown. Michael Olise then made it 3-0, converting Müller’s cross at the far post.
Bayern showed no mercy as Coman added his second moments later, drilling a low shot into the corner. Müller then netted the fifth from another Olise assist, and the French winger capped a dazzling first half by curling in the sixth.
The tempo dipped slightly after the break, but Musiala—returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him late in the Bundesliga season—picked up where his teammates left off. He curled in Bayern’s seventh, converted a penalty for the eighth after being fouled, and completed his hat-trick by pouncing on a defensive error.
Müller rounded off the scoring in the 88th minute, tucking in Serge Gnabry’s cross to complete the record-breaking rout.
The result eclipses the previous largest winning margin in Club World Cup history—Al Hilal’s 6-1 victory over Al Jazira in 2022—and firmly establishes Bayern as early favorites in this year’s tournament.
