Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reiterated the government’s dedication to upgrading recreational infrastructure nationwide, emphasizing its importance in boosting national health and productivity.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Adams highlighted that the transformation of the Ministry’s name to “Sports and Recreation” under President John Mahama’s administration signals a deliberate policy shift toward prioritizing both physical activity and wellness.

“The President didn’t rename the Ministry to Sports and Recreation for nothing,” Adams said. “It’s a clear mandate to give recreation the attention it deserves. Improved wellness means longer, healthier lives, fewer medical bills, and a drop in non-communicable diseases.”

Currently in Morocco to support Ghana’s Black Queens at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Buem MP added that the trip also serves as a learning experience to identify best practices that can be applied back home to strengthen Ghana’s recreational ecosystem.

Adams stressed that robust recreational systems will not only improve citizens’ well-being but also foster community cohesion and economic benefits through tourism and sporting activities.
