Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight lives—including two sitting ministers and three military personnel—in Wednesday’s devastating military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In a solemn statement issued in the aftermath of the incident, the former President expressed heartfelt sorrow over what he described as a profound national tragedy.

“I join the entire nation in mourning the painful loss of our gallant ministers and officers who perished while performing their national duties,” Kufuor said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who perished in this tragic incident.”

He called on Ghanaians to honour the memories of the deceased by embracing unity, compassion, and a shared commitment to national service.

“May God console the entire nation, especially the bereaved families, the President of the Republic, and all Ghanaians during this dark hour,” he added.

The crash, which claimed the lives of senior government officials and military personnel, has plunged the country into mourning. National flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast, while investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

Authorities have since recovered and secured the remains of the victims for forensic examination and official identification.

  • Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

The casualty list was confirmed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who also described the crash as a “national tragedy of painful proportions.”
