Reality Star Turns Determined Law Student: Kim Kardashian Pushes Forward After Narrow Bar Exam Miss

Story Highlights
  • Kim Kardashian revealed she came “so close” to passing the California bar exam but remains committed to becoming a lawyer.
  • She has spent six years in an alternative legal program, balancing studies with criminal justice advocacy and her business ventures.
  • Kardashian has been actively involved in high-profile cases, including securing clemency for Alice Marie Johnson and advocating for the Menendez brothers.

Kim Kardashian remains determined to become a licensed attorney despite narrowly failing the California bar exam this summer, calling the setback “fuel” for her continued efforts.

On Instagram, the reality star shared that she was “so close” to passing the exam, joking that while she isn’t a lawyer yet, she plays “a very well-dressed one on TV.” She added, “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”

Kardashian, 45, has long been involved in criminal justice reform, following in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., the high-profile Los Angeles attorney who famously defended O.J. Simpson in 1995.

She enrolled in California’s law apprenticeship program, which allows students to study under a practicing attorney or judge instead of attending law school. Over the past six years, she has balanced her studies with advocacy work, including campaigns for clemency and justice reform. Notably, she helped secure the release of Alice Marie Johnson, who spent 21 years in prison for a nonviolent drug offense, and has advocated for the Menendez brothers, arguing they were denied a fair trial.

Kardashian also passed the “baby bar” exam in 2021 after multiple attempts, including one taken while battling COVID-19 with a 104-degree fever. Despite not having a law degree—she was 15 credits shy of college graduation—she has leveraged her platform to raise awareness on mass incarceration and criminal justice issues, including through her 2020 docuseries, Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project.

Alongside her legal pursuits, Kardashian has maintained her business and entertainment ventures, including her SKIMS brand and acting role as divorce attorney Allura Grant in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair, which received largely critical reviews.

Her post emphasized persistence and dedication: she remains committed to completing her law journey and achieving her goal of becoming a practicing attorney.
