KATH Resumes Full Operations After Emergency Centre Congestion
Ashanti Regional Minister says coordinated interventions have restored normal services at KATH following temporary pressure on its emergency centre.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has fully resumed normal operations following temporary congestion at its Accident and Emergency Centre.
According to the Minister, he received a briefing from the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, who confirmed that services at the facility have returned to normal after swift interventions were implemented to address the situation.

Dr. Amoakohene disclosed that immediately after reports of the congestion emerged, a coordinated response was launched involving the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate and the management of health facilities across the region. The intervention focused on redistributing patients to other healthcare facilities to ensure uninterrupted emergency services.
He commended the management and staff of KATH, the Regional Health Directorate, and partner health institutions for their prompt response and collaboration in resolving the challenge.

The Minister noted that the incident highlights the need for continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and stronger referral systems within the Ashanti Region.
He pointed to several ongoing government initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare capacity, including the resumption of construction works on the KNUST Medical Centre, backed by more than GH¢400 million in GETFund support. He also cited the ongoing construction of a Cath Lab facility at KATH and broader efforts to improve specialized healthcare delivery across the region.
Dr. Amoakohene further revealed that the Central Government will soon provide updates on the completion and operationalization of major health projects, including the Sewua Regional Hospital and the Afari Military Hospital. Government is also expected to outline progress on other key healthcare installations in the region.
According to him, these investments are essential to reducing pressure on existing health facilities and improving access to quality healthcare services for residents.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the growing healthcare demands of the Ashanti Region and the country at large.
