NPP Declares Boycott of Ablekuma North Rerun, Claims Clear Win
Party Insists Akua Afriyie Won Fairly, Demands EC Declare Results

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a firm stance against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to organize a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, July 8, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, rejected the move, asserting that their candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, won the 2024 election decisively.
Mr. Kodua emphasized that the NPP secured a legitimate victory with a 414-vote margin and accused the EC of attempting to override the will of the people. “The facts and figures are clear. Akua Afriyie won. We will not be bullied into accepting a rerun,” he declared.
According to Kodua, the NPP’s National Executive Committee has resolved not to participate in any rerun and is demanding that the EC comply with a court directive to complete the collation and officially declare Afriyie as the elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.
He described the EC’s call for a rerun—triggered by alleged irregularities and missing validations on some scanned results—as baseless. Kodua insisted that both NPP agents and EC officials verified and signed the results at the affected polling stations.
The NPP’s firm resistance adds to the growing tension in the constituency. The party maintains that any delay in declaring Akua Afriyie as the rightful MP would amount to a breach of the electoral will of the constituents.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has yet to issue a formal response to the NPP’s position.
