President John Dramani Mahama has submitted a detailed report on electoral violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal examination and guidance.

The report—compiled by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno—documents violent disruptions, including shootings and confrontations between political supporters and security forces, which marred both election periods. The clashes tragically claimed the lives of eight individuals in 2020 and three in 2024, with numerous others injured.

This move comes in response to growing calls from civil society groups demanding justice and accountability for political violence. The IGP’s report was prepared on the instruction of President Mahama shortly after he took office.

By engaging the Attorney General, the President aims to identify appropriate legal actions, seek justice for the victims, and ensure long-term safeguards against electoral violence.

The Presidency emphasized its dedication to reinforcing the rule of law and rebuilding public confidence in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
