Ghana’s Parliament was rocked by tension on Thursday as the Minority Caucus staged a dramatic walkout moments before the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The Minority’s protest was a direct response to the violent incidents that marred the recent parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North.

Citing voter intimidation, abuse of state security, and a breakdown of electoral integrity, the Minority MPs said their decision was a stand against what they termed a “serious breach of democracy.”

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh declared that the caucus could not, in good faith, sit through the budget session while remaining silent on what they considered a dangerous precedent undermining Ghana’s democratic credentials.

As the Minority MPs exited the chamber, members of the Majority reportedly hooted and jeered, underscoring the growing partisan divide in the House.

The walkout throws a spotlight on the deepening political tensions in Parliament and raises questions about the legitimacy and inclusiveness of the legislative process moving forward.
