Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed that a security officer was assaulted while on duty, describing the incident as “deeply regrettable.”
The attack occurred on February 18, 2026, at around 7:28 p.m. in the Labour Ward.
According to hospital officials, the officer instructed an 18-year-old visitor, Gabriel Dimson, who was accompanying his mother and a friend, to move to the reception area, as standing at the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours is not permitted.
Mr. Dimson allegedly refused to comply, pushed the officer to the ground, and physically assaulted him. The officer fell unconscious but was immediately attended to by on-duty doctors. He remains admitted to the hospital and is reportedly responding to treatment.
The incident was reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. Authorities have since arrested the suspect, and investigations are ongoing to facilitate prosecution.
Hospital management emphasised that violence against staff will not be tolerated.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the statement read.
The public has been urged to cooperate with hospital staff and adhere to visiting protocols to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
