The government has announced plans to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, marking a significant change to one of Ghana’s most iconic national landmarks.

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga revealed the plan while speaking to journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament. He explained that the move is part of broader efforts to reflect Ghana’s democratic values and national identity in public institutions.

“Government intends to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport,” Ayariga stated, adding that a bill will be presented to Parliament in accordance with legal procedures. He emphasized that such decisions must be lawful and guided by the will of the people.
