Authorities said a truck collided with a pickup transporting workers to coastal fish farms. Egypt’s Labor Ministry of Egypt confirmed that the victims were fishermen en route to their workplaces at the time of the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Preliminary reports indicate many of the victims were from Matareya in Dakahlia province. Social media images shared on Dakahlia’s official Facebook page showed the pickup crushed between two cargo trucks, with twisted metal and debris strewn across the highway.
Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly expressed condolences to the families of the victims and ordered financial assistance for those affected. The governor of Port Said visited the crash site and checked on the injured in local hospitals. Officials also worked to restore traffic and ensure survivors received proper medical care.
