Through the dedicated efforts of Maame Frimpomaa Korankye (MFK) and her Lawson Afisem Team, over GHS 104,000 has been raised to fund the eye surgery of three-year-old Lydia Mbamah, who sustained a serious eye injury at home.
The story came to light during the Lawson TV/Radio Afisem show on Wednesday, where Lydia’s mother, Helena Asomah, recounted the incident. While playing at home, a slipper accidentally struck Lydia’s eye, causing significant damage. Doctors initially warned that the eye might have to be removed due to the severity of the injury, and swelling soon developed around the eye socket.
Lydia was advised to undergo several scans, including an MRI, to assess the extent of the injury and prepare for a follow-up operation. With the family unable to afford the medical costs, MFK immediately stepped in to cover the MRI scan. Thankfully, doctors confirmed that Lydia’s condition is not cancerous.
MFK had originally budgeted between GHS 30,000 and 50,000, but the fundraising campaign, which began on Wednesday during the Afisem show, surpassed expectations, with donations totaling over GHS 104,000 in just a few days.
The funds will go toward Lydia’s upcoming surgery and follow-up care, ensuring she receives the necessary treatment to save her eye and preserve her vision.
Helena Asomah expressed her gratitude, highlighting the role of MFK, the Lawson Afisem Team, and the Lawson Media Viewers and Listeners in transforming a desperate situation into one filled with hope for her daughter.
