Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the death of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In a heartfelt tribute, the former president described the late musician as “a dear friend” and “a pantheon among musical greats of all time,” who left an indelible mark on Ghana’s musical and political landscape.

“With regret, I have received the sad news of the passing of my dear friend and renowned music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu,” Akufo-Addo stated.
“Daddy Lumba, as we affectionately call him, was a pantheon among musical greats of all time and had a special connection with his fans and the entire nation.”
Daddy Lumba passed away today, July 26, 2025, after a short illness at the age of 60. His death has sent shockwaves across the country, with tributes pouring in from musicians, political leaders, and fans alike.
His passing marked the end of a musical journey that spanned over three decades, with more than 34 albums and countless timeless hits to his name.
President Akufo-Addo reflected on Lumba’s special contribution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the years, noting that his music played a significant role in political campaigns and rallies.
“His hit-making songs will remain lasting contributions to my presidential journey and will forever be etched in the annals of political campaign of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
He concluded his tribute with a solemn prayer:
“He will be sorely missed. May he peacefully rest in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
A Life That Touched Millions
Born on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta in the Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba became one of the most influential figures in Ghanaian highlife music. Known for his unique voice, lyrical depth, and versatility, he was widely regarded as Ghana’s Highlife GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
In 2025, his song “Mpempem Do Me” was featured on King Charles III’s Commonwealth Day Playlist, a testament to his global reach and timeless artistry.
