Supreme Court to Decide Fate of Kpandai Election Annulment Today
MP Mathew Nyindam seeks Supreme Court review of High Court annulment as NPP awaits final verdict

- The court will decide on the challenge to the Kpandai election annulment today
- He argues the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the NDC petition
- The party will act based on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the MP’s status
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a challenge on Tuesday, December 16, to the Tamale High Court’s decision that annulled the Kpandai parliamentary election.
The application was filed by Kpandai MP Mathew Nyindam, who is contesting the High Court’s ruling that nullified the December 7, 2024, election results. Nyindam argues that the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
In his legal challenge, Nyindam is seeking a judicial review to overturn the High Court judgment and all proceedings arising from what he calls an invalid petition.
Following the annulment ruling, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) applied for a stay of execution to prevent the NDC and the Electoral Commission from acting on the decision while the Supreme Court reviews the matter.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, December 15, 2025, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed said the party will await the Supreme Court’s verdict before determining its next steps.
“For now, there is no election until we get a definitive ruling from the court. What the court decides will guide our actions. If the ruling is in line with the law, Mathew Nyindam will remain the Kpandai MP, and our victory stands,” he said.
He added that the party would respond firmly if the ruling goes against them, asserting, “If the ruling comes otherwise and the law is disregarded, we will make our stance very clear and face whatever the court decides.”
