Somali Intelligence Kills 13 al-Shabaab Fighters in Middle Shabelle Raid
Operation targets high-ranking al-Shabaab leaders, disrupting planned attacks across three provinces

- Somalia’s NISA executed a precision raid in Maha Saed, Middle Shabelle, eliminating key militants
- Five senior commanders responsible for insurgent operations in multiple provinces were among the dead
- The operation successfully halted terrorist activities across Middle Shabelle, Galgaduud, and the Bay region
Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) carried out a decisive operation on Sunday, killing thirteen members of the al-Shabaab terrorist group.
The precision strike targeted a clandestine meeting in Maha Saed, located in the volatile Middle Shabelle region.
Intelligence officials intercepted five high-ranking leaders who were reportedly planning new attacks and coercing local communities for forced support.
NISA identified the deceased commanders as Moalim Aseyr, Muhumed Ahmed Hassan, Ali Guuraale, Abdirahman Sheikh Ali Dhegey, and Moalim Adey. These leaders had been orchestrating insurgent operations across Middle Shabelle, Galgaduud, and the Bay region.
Security forces also reported that eight other militants were seriously injured during the confrontation.
Information Minister Daud Aweis confirmed that the raid successfully disrupted planned terrorist activities across three Somali provinces, marking a significant blow to al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities.
Al-Shabaab has waged a 16-year insurgency, frequently targeting security forces, government officials, and civilians. The Somali army continues to intensify its offensive against the al-Qaeda-linked group, with crucial support from international partners.
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) remains a key ally in these efforts, following a recent UN Security Council mandate extension.
