A 26-year-old miner, identified as Peter Okyere, is receiving medical treatment after a shocking incident in which he allegedly attacked his landlord and later mutilated himself at Wassa Kyeikrom in the Western Region.

The disturbing episode has left residents in shock after reports emerged that the young miner, who is currently on admission at Green Shield Hospital, first stormed his landlord’s room wielding a metal object and behaving erratically before the situation escalated.

Okyere, originally from Nyinahin and said to have lived in the community for about two months, was reportedly engaged in mining activities in the area and was being supported by the Wassa Dominase Police Command.

According to the landlord, Yaw Anaafi, the miner had lived peacefully with others and had shown no prior signs of violence or substance abuse.

He explained that the situation changed when Okyere suddenly entered his room asking unusual questions about how to make money, while lamenting over hardships following his father’s death.

Yaw Anaafi said a neighbour intervened during the confrontation, helping him escape what was becoming a tense situation. Shortly after, the miner reportedly returned to his room where he allegedly mutilated himself.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Peter Okyere denied being under the influence of alcohol or drugs such as tramadol or marijuana at the time of the incident.

He claimed he was overwhelmed and felt compelled to seek guidance from his landlord on financial struggles, which he says preceded the unfortunate act.

The victim is currently appealing for public support as he battles severe pain and emotional distress.

Meanwhile, police have begun investigations into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
